Our road trip ideas 🚍
Come and breathe in the fresh air of the Rhône Valley: with its varied landscapes, charming villages and local flavours, enjoy a simple, authentic getaway amidst the river and rolling hills.
From the Massif Central to the Alps: escape to the Rhône Valley. This vast natural playground where the landscapes are constantly changing: tranquil rivers, wilder valleys, wooded plateaus and high-altitude spots. Here, everything has been sculpted by water, earth and time, and every stage tells a different story. To simply enjoy it all, Onlycamp campsites are well-placed bases, perfect for experiencing nature up close, whatever atmosphere you’re looking for (but we’ll always have the spot that’s just right for you!). In the Rhône Valley, the water offers a real respite: it slows the pace, opens up the landscapes and invites you to take it easy. People come here to walk or cycle at a leisurely pace, read a book in the shade, enjoy simple moments with family or friends, and watch the day slip by amidst the reflections. To settle down right by the water, there are three well-located Onlycamp campsites: Champ d’Été (near Mâcon, on the banks of the Saône), Lac de Roybon (Chambarans plateau, with a forest atmosphere and a chance to unwind) and Le Calatrin (Lake Paladru, swimming and water sports). Here, water isn’t just part of the scenery: it’s the heart of the holiday experience! As you head up the valleys, the region becomes more rugged: livelier rivers, cliffs, hillsides and villages nestled between water and rock create more striking landscapes. It’s the perfect spot to alternate between swimming in the river, scenic hikes and little local discoveries, amidst a mountain atmosphere with a touch of the south. To settle in at the right pace, three Onlycamp campsites that capture the spirit of the place: Les Tuillères (Drôme Valley, with access to the river and trails), Chamarges (in Die, between the Vercors, vineyards and white water) and Le Jalinier (in Buis-les-Baronnies, with rocky scenery and the Ouvèze river). Here, days are spent outdoors, with breaks by the water’s edge and peaceful evenings as the light falls over the hills. Why not head for the heights? At altitude, everything takes on a new perspective: on the Petites Roches plateau, the Alps open up before you, the light flows freely and the balance between valleys and mountains is clear at a glance. Here, you can feel the air and the wind as an integral part of the scenery, with colourful kites in the sky reminding you that the journey is also experienced ‘up high’, even with your feet firmly on the ground. To soak up this atmosphere, head to the Onlycamp des Petites Roches campsite, about 30 minutes from Grenoble, in the heart of the Chartreuse. And from there, you can watch the paragliders taking off in style! In short: one valley, many ways to camp! Calm waters or rushing rivers, forests or high ground: the Rhône Valley offers a different experience depending on the landscapes you choose to explore. Whether you’re travelling by van, motorhome or tent, Onlycamp sites let you choose your own atmosphere, set up camp with ease and discover the area at your own pace, always surrounded by nature…
