Surrounded by mountainous terrain, the village offers a wide range of activities and is a lively place all year round, with shops, restaurants and entertainment all within easy reach of the campsite, just 2 km from the village. For lovers of nature and hiking, Ceillac is also one of the starting points for the Tour du Queyras – GR58 and the Font Sancte. Take the time to wander through the narrow streets and enjoy an outing with friends or family, accompanied by the fresh mountain air.

Accessible from June to October, there are two levels of difficulty, so that everyone can progress at their own pace. Get your equipment ready and start the aventure!

Queyras Fort

History lovers won’t want to miss out on a visit to Fort Queyras! Situated 10km from Ceillac in Château-Ville-Vieille, this sublime monument overlooking the Gorges du Guil was designed by Vauban and is emblematic of the region. Strategically erected on the heights in the 13th century, this imposing fortified castle was built to defend the Queyras region from looters. Vauban carried out alterations at the end of the 17th century. The castle was also used for military purposes until the late 1960s. Today, you can enjoy a fun and historical tour from May to November, with a view of the Queyras Valley from the dungeon.

Hiking in the Queyras Regional Nature Park

Nature and the great outdoors will come together to accompany you on a hike for two or the whole family in the Queyras Regional Nature Park, just outside Ceillac. Covering an area of more than 65,000 hectares, you can follow the signposted trails through forests, gorges and mountain lakes. Its unspoilt nature is also home to a wealth of fauna and flora, which you’ll be lucky enough to be able to admire as you stroll along. Along the way, you’ll come across a number of villages with charming chapels, calvaries, sundials and fountains. Idea for a hike: Ceillac – Saint-Véran (listed as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France and the first stage of the GR58). This is a 12-kilometre hike (and you’ll need a good pair of shoes!) to discover the beauty of the Hautes-Alpes, combining nature and heritage.

As you wander around its ramparts, enjoy a unique panorama of the Queyras mountains, glistening in the southern sunshine. Named in homage to the King’s son by Vauban and strategically located, the town was originally built to reinforce the Alpine defences during the reign of Louis XIV. Since then, it has seen many wars, and is now a place steeped in history that you can explore at your own pace.
